Miramichi Sportsmens Club

Next Meeting – Tuesday May 9 ,2006       Time - 7:30 pm       Place – Newcastle Lions Club

The last gun club meeting was held on February 7th,2006 with the following items being discussed:

      - Club Insurance purchased, H Parlee explained that insurance was hard to buy due to
      Liability. Note: Not many companies interested in providing coverage to gun
      clubs. This is fire insurance for our buildings and liability insurance for the club premises.

      - News letters sent out to all members including past, present and new in hopes of
      increasing membership. Also we are looking into approaching groups such as
      Police and DNR to invite them to join our club.

      - Held a meeting with Tanker Malley (M.L.A.) to see if any government money is
      available, Will report later on progress.

      - Letter to be sent out to Wildlife Federation to inquire if any funds or programs
      available to draw from.

     - We will not be hosting a gun show this year.

      - Next year (2007) our pistol range has to be recertified and the following year(2008)
      the rifle range to be recertified (Start work to accomplish these tasks this year)

      -Jim B put on a presentation on the web site he developed for our gun club.
      Thanks to Jim’s contribution we have a very functional site for our club
      members. You can now check out club activities and any notices as the site will
      be updated regularly. Check frequently for updates !!!!!!

Here is an update on club news since our February meeting :

Held an executive meeting on Tuesday April 11th with the following being discussed :

      - Discussed preliminary shoot dates for the coming year with the following results :

Shotgun Range :

     - Miramichi Open - 50 bird Sporting Clays Shoot being held on Saturday, May 20th. The cost of this shoot
      is $35.00 (Ammunition extra) and is open to everyone including the general public. This is a fun shoot
      where pop and hotdogs will be available at the range. There will be a number of prizes with the majority
      being awarded by lucky draw so everyone has a equal chance to win regardless of shooting
      ability. Support your club and participate.

     -Regular shooting at the Shotgun Range will be Sundays from 1:00pm until shooting is completed and again
      on Wednesday evenings starting at 6:00 pm. These shooting times will commence as soon as the road
     dries up and the ranges are open to shooting.

Pistol Range:

      - Regular group shooting time will begin at 1:00pm each Sunday after the range road is opened.

      - This year the Handgun faction will be putting on displays of different types of pistol shooting
      (IPSA , etc.) Check our web site to check for updates.

Rifle Range :

      -Times and dates for regular rifle shooting events will be posted later on our web site or out at the
     range after the road to the facility is open.

Contact Alexis Robichaud at 622-4711 for further information concerning events at the Rifle Faction.

Other items discussed at the executive meeting:

     - Discussed the spending needs of the factions and the gun club in general .

      - Discussed estimated cost of doing road repairs, bushwhacking ,land leases, taxes and faction operating funds ($200 per/faction)
      - As money becomes available we will be spending $700. for work needed at the rifle range and will
      also be working on the list presented by the Pistol and Shotgun Factions at this meeting.

      - Discussed application for funding from the Provincial government. Waiting to hear on results of application

      - We also discussed applying for additional land on our lease to meet the new needs of our club. The executive and
      faction heads plan to meet after the ranges are open and have each faction tell us what additional land they need.

      - We will then approach the Provincial government and apply for this additional land on one application.

Enclosed is a membership form for 2006. This can also be printed from the website. You can either mail in your completed
membership form to the address at the top of the form or just drop into following locations:

      - Miramichi Volkswagon – 829 King George HWY. (see Paul Nowlan at the service dept.)
      -Robbies Store – 631 Old King George HWY. (See Alexis Robichaud)

Starting in May and each month after we will be posting an updated paid membership list at each faction building. This will
allow each faction chairman to clarify who is and who is not a member of our club.

It is very important that we receive your membership as soon as possible so we can plan for the upcoming shooting season.
Try to recruit at least one new member this year if you can – This would double our membership – Wouldn’t that be great!
