We spent the latter part of last summer doing the paperwork to have our range boundaries expanded. We have received the needed paperwork from the provincial government to allow this to happen. All the ranges have been surveyed and the lines cut to include the new boundaries. This would not have been possible without the very generous support of our local Dept. of Natural Resources. This project was completed in mid April of 2007 and now the paperwork is complete and the new lease was written and registered.
The Rifle and Pistol ranges have grown from 3.78 hectares to 7.28 hectares. The Shotgun ranges has grown from 2.76 hectares to
7.1 hectares.
This new lease should ensure each faction in our gun club can plan future range improvements and upgrades.
Our club will be facing some challenging times ahead. This year the Pistol Range has to be recertified and next year the Rifle and Shotgun Ranges will also need to be recertified. We should be looking ahead to see what work will be needed on the ranges to make this happen. ( example – berm heights, signage, etc )
Shotgun Faction:
Miramichi Open Sporting Clays Shoot
Saturday , May 19th- Start Time :9:00am)
(See web page for details )Everybody Welcome.
There will be a lot of work done this spring at the Shotgun facility as we plan to reside the Skeet and Trap houses. At our November
Gun club meeting money was allocated for this project and some of the material needed was purchased. This job will be completed this spring. With the added land we obtained with the lease extension we will also be establishing new shooting stations and walkways in the wooded areas. Members help will be needed to complete these jobs.
We will also be installing a Trap machine with a turret this spring which will allow Trap shooting without having to hand load the birds on the machine for each shot. This will make this game very popular.
Shooting Times: Sunday ( Starts at 1:00 pm)
Wednesday Evening ( Starts at 6:15 pm)
Pistol Faction
The Pistol faction guys plan on doing a lot of work this summer on their range now that they have the land extension they need. After the Dept. of Natural Resources checks out the new section on the Pistol site for stumpage, Denis plans on cutting and clearing the lot for future range expansion. He will be calling on club members to help with this project.
The Pistol Faction will be hosting a IPSC shoot on Saturday, June 2nd.This shoot will start at 9:00 am. Anyone who is Black Badge Certified is invited to participate in this shoot. Gun club members as well as the general public are invited to the range to see what this shoot is all about. For any further information call Denis Chamberlain (773-7726) or Doug Getty (622-7817) anytime.
Rifle Faction
As of the 1st of May the road to the Rifle and Pistol ranges are very wet as it still has a fair amount of snow on it. It will probably be later in May before the road will be good to drive on.
As soon as Alexis and the boys get to the range they will announce what work has to be done this summer.
We will post the Rifle shooting schedule on the web site as well as on the bulletin board at the Rifle building when it is developed.
